A: You can use a unit called a cellular back up system. With this system, the alarm panel can send signal(s) through a cell phone number in addition to or instread of a line-line phone number.

 

The digital systems come in different configurations. The less expensive models, the T1 model, only sends a general alarm signal such as "fire" or "burglary."  The better systems, the T4 model, can send every signal that your alarm panel is capable of sending. For example, if you had an alarm signal triggered at your front door contact, the T1 model will send a general alarm signal. The T4 system, however, will send an alarm signal that specifies the front door contact alarm was triggered, giving the monitoring company a more precise idea of what is happening on your property.
