I am posting to emphasis the importance of hiring trustworthy employees and to show that these thefts, as petty as they may be, could have been stopped by having a CCTV security system and by using it as a managerial tool. YES, this is a real former employees story. YES, its funny, but NO, it is not right!** Alarm monitoring is an ultimate line of defense against break-ins and burglary. Whether you are a home owner or a business owner, it is important to have your property monitored 24/7/365, and to have a system in place to alert the authorities in case something goes wrong. As soon as the alarm is activated, it sends a signal to the monitoring station where a representative tries to contact you immediately, and notifies the authorities on first signs of trouble. Below you’ll find an Infographic that 2MCCTV created using the data from the annual retail theft survey, by Jack L. Hayes International. Every year, retail companies lose millions of dollars to shoplifters and dishonest employees. 24 of the largest retail companies with 18,518 stores & over $589 billion in retail sales were surveyed. In 2011 alone, over 6 billion dollars was stolen. Over $161 million was recovered from both shoplifting and employee theft, which is only about 2.7% of what was actually stolen. The below Infographic compares the number of total apprehensions and money recovered from both groups in the U.S. in 2011 compared to 2010. Consumers who believe that security systems only guard against theft haven’t done their homework. Surely the most obvious benefit of a home security system is burglary prevention, and that’s for good reason. According to the FBI crime stats, the average home theft in the U.S. results in $2,185 lost. Alarm systems work in both low-tech and high-tech ways to deter break-ins.On the low tech side, yard signs and window decals often are enough to ward off potential intruders. Most criminals are cowards. Seeing that your home is protected with state of the art technology, burglars will think twice before breaking and entering. If they decide to proceed anyway, sensors by windows and doors detect when someone has entered or exited your home. When your system is armed and an intruder enters your home without punching in your security code, an alert is sent to a monitoring center, manned by security experts. Authorities will be dispatched nearly immediately. But, as the late night commercials say, “Wait! There’s more!” Following are other ways your system can protect you from common problems: |
